UPDATE 03-15-10 : detail painting

Ello guys, just a quick update on the Geara Zulu build...I have been detail painting the kit with citadel paints. I used Citadel boltgun metal and skull white and a 00 brush. The citadel paints dries pretty quickly and has no brush strokes. I have yet to clean up some black enamel wash and also have yet to give the other parts the same wash. I will finish up the enamel wash and do decals soon. This will be the last update for this build...thanks for viewing. Now, here are a few quick snapshots of the parts with detail painting...

hguc Geara Zulu WIP part V

UPDATE 03-14-10: painting the base color

Ello guys, I painted the hguc Geara Zulu today, I was slowed down by watching the Manny Pacquio fight though. I painted this for 3 hours but watching the fight in between rounds made the painting session last up to 5 hours. Anyways, I primed this with Bosny primer grey ( industrial grade primer ) and painted this with Tamiya acrylics with Tamiya paint retarder. I ran out of yellow so I painted the cable parts in flat aluminum. I also forgot that I do not have a white paint anymore, so I airbrushed the white with a Citadel skull white. The citadel paint is as big as the Tamiya acrylic jars but it is more than twice the price. I mixed the Citadel paint with a drop of water and it dries pretty fast and is very nice and smooth. I also enjoyed shading the thrusters with silver and copper...looks ok. Now here are some pics...

Gundam custom base - hguc Geara Zulu WIP part IV

Ello guys, I did a simple base for the hguc Geara Zulu...I wanted the kit in flight mode so I needed to create a base for it. This will also be a mini tutorial for people who likes to build custom bases for their kits.

BTW, I do like those nifty bases by Bandai, specially those with the symbols as the base...but I kinda find them expensive and I am a cheap guy...so I always do custom ones. I might get the Zeon base though just for photo shoots of my dio-less and base-less kits. Anyways here some pics showing how I made my cheap custom base...

hguc Geara Zulu WIP part III

Ello guys, The photo at the top shows an average size of the pla plates I used for this build...I had to resize my pla plate patterns to fit the 144 scale, coz I only have patterns for 1/100s... Anyways,  I detailed the hguc Geara Zulu further...basically I added more MSG ( koto ) option parts, more small pla plating, drilled holes and scribed a few more panel lines. As I've said in my previous posts, this is but a test / practice build to get accustomed to small scales so that it will be easy for me to detail the AC White Glint. I think I am comfortable working on this scale so now I can move on to my commission work. However for some reason, I suddenly felt the urge to finish this, paint it and create a small base for it at the same time. I will create a small base first after posting this...so stay tuned. hihi, anyways here are some pics...

hguc Geara Zulu WIP part II

Ello guys, in the middle of working with this kit, my MSG order arrived from Hobbies Corner...so after my previous post I added the MSG option parts to a few areas of the hguc Geara Zulu. I have to clean up a few glue marks and has yet to give the pla plating some wet sanding love. 

TIP: Wet sanding the pla plating with a high grit sandpaper ( 1000 grit and above ) will soften the edges of the pla plates and will make it look like it is part of the original mold once primed. Wet sanding also removes the lip marks of the new holes.

hguc Geara Zulu snapfit

Ello guys, this is actually my first hguc that I bought, I usually get my 144s as competition prizes and I usually never paint them. I think I do not have the skills ( yet ) to work with hgucs, coz they are so small. I got so poisoned with the Unicorn Video I got in youtube a couple of days ago and decided to get myself this and a Kshatriya. I also decided to work on this kit as a practice build before working on my AC White Glint commission work. I figured that working with a PG Zeta then the AC White Glint will be difficult, coz the disparity in size is huge, I have been used to working with big parts already...so I will have to practice first with this small kit before moving on to the commish White Glint. This kit is really nice, the articulation and construction is very efficient, I mean Bandai used a few parts for the joints yet it yields MGish articulation...the hguc kits are getting really better!
