GBWC Junior Category should be done live!?

As I post photos of my lovely daughters at my Instagram and Facebook accounts, a thought came to me about a possible scheme on how to do the GBWC junior category.

My eldest daughter ( 11 years old ) has won 2 bronzes at GBWC already, first time was in 2011 and a second bronze this 2014. I must admit I get defensive sometimes when people comment that I help her with her entries... I tell them that if I actually help my daughter, she would definitely get gold and not bronze ( lol ).

Anyways, I thought of a "what if" scenario on how to handle GBWC junior category. Maybe they could make it an "on the spot" building category? An on the spot kit bashing contest that would show creativity OR an on the spot Gunpla painting category that should be fun to watch and would showcase the painting skills of our kids in front of the judges?

I know this idea will never happen. Too complicated to set-up and too tedious to plan. I do imagine it is much more fun for the kids! They get to compete in front of the judges and in front of their parents and they get to win without the help of their uncles or fathers who want to travel to Japan for free ( lol ).

This hobby is so much fun specially if we let the kids have fun on their own. No more controversial wins for the kids and they get to build names of their own.

This is pretty much similar to the on the spot painting contests I used to join when I was a kid. I know I won coz I was better than the other kids during those on the spot painting contests and I know some are better than me whenever I do not win.

The point is, kids will gain more confidence if we just guide them and let them achieve things or create art on their own.

Just a thought that I wanted to blog about. Some uncles or dads might hate this idea ( lol ), but my daughters would enjoy it for sure! Such a lovely sight when you see your kids enjoying the same activity you love.

The photos show my daughters sanding a 1/144 Nobel Gundam. I will teach them how to properly airbrush a kit tomorrow. Should be a fun family Gunpla day tomorrow! :)

Anyways, thanks as always for dropping by! Just enjoy the hobby! Until next post guys! :)

my daughter Nicole broke her first 1/144 hg kit...

My daughter attempted to build her first 1/144 hg kit using a Gundam Age Normal kit. This kit she won at GBWC Philippines 2011 with her " Help Me " diorama back in November. My daughter Nico has already snapfitted around (5) 1/144 First Grade kits and around (4) SD kits todate, but it was her first time to build a high grade.

I left for a party and saw her finishing the head and torso parts at home the other day. When I got home she has packed everything back in the box. Apparently, she broke and accidentally cut the left shoulder peg for the arms as she basically thought it is was one of those pegs that you need to cut.

My daughter had fun building it and was amazed that he finished the torso and the head. But she told me that the parts are hard to disassemble whenever you make a mistake. I was afraid to teach her to cut the male pegs for easier dis-assembly and I guess my baby ( 8 years old ) can't handle a high grade kit just yet. Nicole then gave me this kit and I will repair the shoulder peg soon, might paint it alongside my MG Zeta Karaba.

I need to give her a couple more SD kits before trying to level up with high grades early next year ( 2012 ). Just can't describe in words how happy I am whenever my daughter plays with plastic, will make her enter in our 2012 Mecha Contest soon!

GBWC entry: SD Gundam diorama version NICOLE

Gundam diorama version NICOLE photo

I am very very proud to present today my daughter's winning entry at Gunpla Builders World Cup 2011 last November! This was my daughters 3rd painted kit but her first time joining at a Bandai competition. She bagged 2nd runner up at the New Challenger Junior Category where she competed with older kids up to 14 years old. My lovely daughter is just 8 years old and this diorama is entitled " Help Me ".

My daughter NICOLE had a hard time painting the pink SD GP03 as I told her to use industrial spraycans. The Nozzle of the spray can was so hard for her, she used her little thumb and used two hands to handle the can. Thus I lend her some of my Vallejo paints for the SD Kshatriya and she enjoyed doing the marble technique so much.

Much like her dad, she is very comfortable working her magic on the diorama. She dry brushed the rocks and the ground work, and she did a super nice pattern on the water part. The composition of the whole diorama and the concept was ALL her. Dang I cannot describe in words how happy I am every time I look at this Gundam diorama in my display cabinet.

Apparently my daughter also got my competitive spirit. Below is a chat between me and her after she won 2nd runner up...

DC23:  I am so proud of you ( insert kisses here )... You won 3rd place!

NICOLE: NO dad, I got 2nd Runner Up. :)

Can't help but smile after hearing that Nicole likes the word 2nd a lot more and would not accept 3rd ( even if it is practically the same placing ). Anyways here are tons of unphotoshoped photos ( can't put watermark! ) hope you like them...

my daughter NICO won at GBWC Philippines 2011!

GBWC Philippines 2011 photo

First of all congratulations to all the winners! Specially to all the MAC forum members who participated and won at the recently concluded Gunpla Builders World Cup Philippines ( will do a seprate post )! We have a new Philippine CHAMPION who will be representing our country at HongKong finals this December in Michael Costa aka BULASTOG at MAC forums.

The highlight of the event ( for me ) is not the MAC forum winners and participants... the highlight of GBWC Philippines 2011 is my daughter who joined for the first time and won as 2nd runner up in the New Challenger Junior Category!

My daughter NICO got a medal and some great prizes from Bankee ( official Bandai partner ) and was awarded her medal by sir Rey Cortez ( judge ). She was so happy and showed it when we got home. She told her mom that she won 8th place and then said it was a joke, coz she won as 2nd runner up and showed off her huge bronze medal.

She has some plans for next year already and is checking out her prizes as I write this post. Honestly I could not describe how it feels... It is I think a little better than winning yourself. I am a proud modeler dad of a young Gunpla modeler.

The photos below shows the short journey of my daughter as she builds her winning entry this year...
