2015 should be exciting for DC23-mecharts

2015 should be more exciting for DC23-mecharts. 2014 was a bit boring and a bit unproductive, it is so easy to be more productive and active next year!

2014 was my first year back from my Gunpla hiatus ( since 2011 ) and it took me a while to get used to working and modding plastic again. I am still re-learning the old techniques and re-learning how to use an airbrush this year. But I should ( barring some real life work stuff ) be more productive this coming year. I am also looking to buy a few stuffs to improve my painting and my photography. And as I have posted already ( see HERE ), I am also trying and looking for ways to improve my bases and dioramas.

I also promised Tai Ho Ma aka verMA ( GBWC 2014 HongKong Champion ) that I will try really hard to surprise him by year end. I hope to keep that promise bro, as you can see in the photo above, I am preparing for GBWC 2015 already ( lol ).

I practically finished only a couple of practice kits, a commissioned non-Gunpla kit, and a couple of reboots ( repaints ) this 2014. I also did work on a PG Strike Freedom, a Mega Scale Zaku, MG Z'Gok and a MG Zeta Karaba that are still in various stages of progress.

I hope to finish my WIPs as soon as I can and hope to give them better photos as well.

Honestly I am a bit torn between joining GBWC 2015 or NOT. Sometimes I feel too old as I am one of those people who learned Gunpla at forums ( Fichtenfoo and ZeroGunz ) and not at Facebook. Is it time for the new talents to enjoy GBWC? Should old pricks like me just enjoy our commission works and sponsorships?  Although sometimes, I feel like I am new to the hobby, my 2 year hiatus ( 2011 to 2013 ) and my super busy schedule this year ( 2014 ) makes me want to join again and test my skills against the newer generation of talented Gunpla modelers. We shall see in 10 months.

Nevertheless I am very excited for the coming year and really hope to be as productive as ever! Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys! :)

"Königstiger" MG The O verDC23 reboot

MG The O verDC23 rebootphoto

I am very hesitant to post this build as this looks so amateur in comparison to the current GBWC 2014 Champion's work The Spider O. However I thought I might as well post this old work ( repainted rushly to meet the GBWC Philippines 2014 deadline ) as this is practically old work anyways.

This was the same kit as the fully hand painted blue and orange The O II Hauer used for the Toymaker versus DC23 Face-Off back in 2011. This kit was not allowed at GBWC 2011 as the Expert category did not allow modifications at all ( funny they called it expert category ) and this year, the kit was also not allowed due to technical stuffs ( read the reason HERE ). I will never attempt to enter this kit ever again as it might be disqualified again ( lol )!

I will make sure I follow the " receipt " rule this year and HOPE the local organizer won't change the rules again, so that I would finally qualify at GBWC 2015.

I had to replace the head with a Mega Scale Zaku Bazooka as I lost the head during our house repairs last year. I kinda rushed the painting and the weathering to meet the deadline but at least I got to restore this old head-less build.

Anyways here are some photos of this restored kit. Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys!

Presentation is Everything... Improving my Gunpla Dioramas

Improving your Gunpla Dioramasphoto

I love dioramas so much I always tend to focus on working on them most of the time. Although I just make complex bases ( not considered as dioramas by some if it does not convey a story ), but the bottom line is that I enjoy working on the bases sometimes a bit more than the actual kits themselves.

I am looking to improve the bases ( or frames ) of my dioramas this year... Most of my older builds have lousy made bases as you can see HERE, HERE and HERE.

I have been away from Gunpla and worked on some minis the past couple of years, thus I am so influenced by the super talented painters of the miniature world. Unlike Gunpla, where you could get away with basic skills and airbrushing... Miniature painting ( and of course sculpting ) is done by top level talented artists.

As it is obvious with my choice of medium and paints, I am greatly influenced by the miniature painting world. Thus moving forward I will be focusing on creating and presenting my dioramas the same way top level miniature artists present their work.

There are so many ways of presenting your plastic pose-able robots. Personally, I like my Gunpla to look like serious sculptures. I like my future builds to look like well made sculptures on bases ( story or NOT ). All of my bases or dioramas will be presented the same way the top level artists and diorama makers of the miniature world present theirs.Wish me luck... and I hope you find your own style as well.

NO GUNPLA for almost a month now...

NO GUNPLA photo

I have been staying at work ( in the office ) since October 6 and it has been a while since I last blogged. Managed to squeeze a bit of time to blog today as there is a Halloween party of sorts here at work. We are currently working on a very complex project at work as of the moment, but I should return to Gunpla very soon.

GBWC 2014 was so much fun eventhough I failed to join for the 3rd straight year. My daughter won her 2nd bronze at GBWC 2014, she is asking for a trigger type airbrush this Christmas and vows to do better than bronze next year. Dang hobby gets more expensive every year.

I deeply apologise to all my clients whom I have pending commissioned works, will focus on my commission works once I return to Gunpla next month.

The GBWC 2014 here in the Philippines was extra special as I got Master Kawaguchi autographed all my ancient Gunpla trophies. Great stuff, hope to join next year's event with an entry.

Should make this space more active by next month.  Thanks as always for the support guys! :)

PG Strike Freedom verDC23 WIP081314

PG Strike Freedom verDC23 WIP081314photo

Not much update since my last post. Basically I did more armor trimming on some parts which I always love to do on any Master Grade or Perfect Grade kits. Armor trimming and separation is done already and I have started to work on the actual modifications I had in mind for this kit. Stay tuned guys as I try to give this PG Strike Freedom a more menacing look.

Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys! Just enjoy the hobby! :)
