Trollbloods Trollkin Runebearer by DC23

I just finished my Trollbloods Trollkin Runebearer and I am pretty happy with the outcome. I actually thought that this was going to be a boring project as the pewter model lacks the over the top details of my previous Trollblood models. What it lacks in details it overcame with it's impressive and intimidating pose though.

I had a bit of hard time differentiating the different " browns " in the model. I made the main cloththe darkest, painted the leather parts redder, painted the scottish cloth more orange than usual and painted the highlights in different colors... ending, they all look the same! lol

I think I am getting the hang of painting minis now. I am still working on my high contrast painting and trying to get used to the idea that almost all the details needs highlights. Totally different than scale modeling where subtlety and realism ( usually just base color, washes and drybrushing ) is the norm.

Anyways... this is my fav of my painted models so far ( although I will say that again in my next ) and will be painting more in the following days. The photos are big for their own good... hope you enjoy them...

WIP - speed painting my Trollkin Runebearer

WIP - speed painting my Trollkin Runebearer photo

Tried my hand on speed painting and I achieved what you see here in 4 hours. I could have finished this in another hour or so, BUT there was no point of speed painting as I do not have models lying around to paint anyways. After this model I only have one more ( Dire Troll Blitzer ) to paint.

I am painting this with Vallejo Game color, Model color and Vallejo Inks. I am not as fast as the other painter / gamers but I think the quality of the blending is okay for my first attempt. I think most of my models are going to be SEMI speed painted as it is fun and you see results really fast! This miniature hobby is perfect for busy people like me!

I cannot do speed painting as much as I have yet to acquire more models. Speed painting equals speed buying and my wife will do speed killing if she discovers. Maybe I could speed sell some of my old Gunpla kits to try speed buying soon. I should be done with this model soon as I just need a bit more glazing, inking and detail painting to finish it.

Anyways here are a few photos of my progress so far...

WIP - Runebearer & Dire Troll Blitzer primed

WIP - Runebearer & Dire Troll Blitzer primed photo

I managed to squeeze in a couple of hours before going to work today ( I am at work now ) and finished priming my Trollkin Runebearer and my Dire Troll Blitzer.

I added green stuff all over the base of the Runebearer and scribed some runes on the green stuff rocks. Still debating ( with myself ) if I would want to give the runes a light effect similar to the rune stones held by the figure. Light effect or not, hopefully the base would look good once painted.

I also finished filling the gaps ( with green stuff ) of the Dire Troll Blitzer and I also sculpted a simple flowing back skirt for the beast. I thought the flowing back skirt gives the overall model a more " charging " look. The back skirt sort of compliments the " bandanas " ( flowing headband ) of the Pygmy riding on his back.

Both models are ready for painting... but should be finishing my Fennblades before working on these models. Very Excited to paint the base of the Trollkin Runebearer though. Now here are a few photos of my progress so far...

WIP - Trollkin Runebearer custom base

WIP - Trollkin Runebearer custom base photo

I managed to do a quick base for my new Trollbloods Trollkin Runebearer I got yesterday.

Nothing spectacular specially as of now as I just covered a cap with Selley's epoxy putty then glued ( super glue ) some real rocks around the area. I plan to sculpt Rune tablets around the base using some green stuff soon. The rune tablets on the base should give this guy a better custom base before painting.

I initially planned to put some water effects around the base but realized that the 40mm might look too crowded. I am happy with the simple cliff look of the base though and as I've said, it should look better once I add some rune tablets around the sides of the base soon.

Anyways, here are a few more photos...

Trollbloods Trollkin Runebearer unboxing

Trollbloods Trollkin Runebearer unboxing photo

I have here my 13th Privateer Press Trollbloods model. This is a Trollblood Solo Trollkin Runebearer that pretty much resembles Moses with the 10 commandments. Cool little figure that should be really fun to paint. I plan to give this a simple custom base soon... maybe as soon as I get home.

The metal figure comes with the standard colored stat card and a 40mm plastic base. The sculpt is superb and crisp as usual and unlike the plastic kits, it does not have very visible mold lines. Great stuff as always from the Privateer Press team. The flowing cloth gives another practice opportunity for practicing my wet blending and I am super excited!

Now here are a few photos of this cool little fella...

Some of the most learned trollkin runescribes choose to accompany their leaders into battle. Carrying the sacred tablets of their kriel, runebearers are capable of amplifying the Dhunian gifts of trollkin warlocks. The glyphs glow as the runebearer speaks them aloud, easing their warlock’s use of their fury-driven prayers and sorcery.
