Toymaker Versus DC23 2020!

Toymaker Versus DC23 2020 Photo

Back in 2010, when the local organizer ( with the permission of Bandai ) created the Expert Category ( which I won ) making me and ( a couple more modelers ) no longer eligible for the Open Category at that time and a couple of years to follow.

This frustrated me, as I lost the drive to modify kits like crazy. Snap fitting and painting are fun and less work after all.

I then thought of asking Kenny Lim aka Toymaker to a Face / Build Off, to give me the drive to modify a huge kit. To my surprise, Kenny agreed! Kenny is like a mentor to me. I learned everything about Gunpla from blogs, websites and forums abroad. And Kenny's old blog was such an inspiration.

The build off back in 2010 was a MG The O kit. The Build off photos ( also posted here ) is the last gallery under my "Contest Gallery Page".

Fast forward to today, as I've said in this blog entry, I will be painting Mecha kits and drawing them as well, full time. I will also be designing more Mecha Designs for our DC23 clothing.

I will be painting ( modifying a bit ) commissioned Mecha works at least one kit ( or two ) per month.  In fact I just started one ( MG Gunner Zaku Warrior ) the other day. However, I wanted a side project, that will push me to modify a kit like a madman again.

Joining GBWC again is... errr... for my 16 year daughter. I have no plans of joining as of this writing. So I thought of Kenny again!

I feel a challenge from one of the best modelers of the world in Kenny ( Toymaker ) could push me to modify a kit like it's for a competition again. I also think that in order to push yourself to get better, you have to challenge the people that are better than you. People who are best in the world.

I am happy... as yet again... Kenny accepted my offer to another build off after 9 ( 10 years next year )! Woot woot! This will be more fun than 10 years ago!

Me and Kenny chose the MG Deep Striker as our Mecha Design canvas.

This is going to be so much fun!

As always, thanks a ton for dropping by! Until next update guys!

Saludos!

NeoGrade conversion MG EX-S by Matt Tomczek

NeoGrade conversion MG EX-S by Matt Tomczek photo

I was checking out this masterpiece by my good friend Matt Tomczek and figured I'd share it to you as well. This is the 1/100 NeoGrade conversion of the MG EX-S Gundam and Matt told me that he will be shipping me ( from the US ) a resin head and gun as he has a spare. Thanks a ton man!

I could and will use the head for my DeepStriker project and will be using mostly Matt Tomczek's works as my reference the whole year. I will try to painstakingly scratch build the rest of the parts though but it is always good to have great photos of a great build in front of you. Matt also has a completed G System Deepstriker that I could reference to while working on my project. Glad to have great modeler friends around! lol

Plan 303E " DeepStriker " ver DC23 this 2012!

lan 303E DeepStriker ver DC23 this 2012 photo

As I've said in a previous post, I plan to challenge myself by building a DeepStriker out of a MG EX-S for 2012.

People who knows me in real life pretty much knows I am super " broke " and strapped for cash these days ( weeks, months ). So I thought of asking for sponsorship for this project ( or else wifey would kill me ). Special thanks to my good friend Matt Tomczek for offering to sponsor a MG EX-S kit, very much appreciate it man but I could not accept ( maybe next year ). :)

SO now I am proud and happy to announce that I will be working on a Plan 303E DeepStriker conversion on a MG EX-S Gundam for my 2012 year end project. The project will be sponsored by no other than the best source of toys and Gunpla here in the Philippines GREATTOYSONLINE.com.

GreattoysOnline.com will be providing me the kit/s needed for this huge undertaking. This marks the first time that a big personal project will be sponsored by a Gunpla / toy store. Unlike my other year end / contest projects of the past 3 years, this should be extra fun as I would obviously  save a lot of money working on the project.

The objective of the build is to convert a MG EX-S Gundam into a DeepStriker. Unlike my The O II conversion, the additional challenge is to try to produce something clean. Modification techniques will also be a lot more complicated as I cannot slap on zimmerit patterns to fill the huge open spaces. Add the fact that I am not really good at working with Gundam kits as I usually work on Zeon MS kit designs.

Due to my primitive utterly very basic scratch building skills, I am sure to come up with something different than the original DeepStriker design. My inability to copy or replicate those sb parts will instantly result to a different version of the design.

On a side note, thank you so much for those who voted on my poll on " What could be my next big project ? ". The Devil Gundam won in a landslide.

Anyways, thanks a ton for dropping by! Hope to put on a show once I start my DeepStriker project. Til' next update guys! :)

1/100 EX-S Gundam Plan 303E "Deep Striker"???

My sidebar POLL ( see sidebar ) asking What could be my next big project? basically has results thrown on it already. I doubt the other choices would catch up with the Devil Gundam after the month.

I am having second thoughts on working on the Devil Gundam as it is almost fully scratch built. Aside from the fact that I lack the skills to pull it off, A fully scratch built project is NOT competition friendly ( insert links here ). I could use a MG Master Gundam and use it's internals but other than that kit, the rest of the parts are going to be scratch built.

So why is it not competition friendly? Coz the judges will only judge the MG Master Gundam, and that kit is super small. Could be a winner in my display cabinet but not to the judge's eyes I think ( I may be wrong of course ). So that's it! That makes me think twice on doing a Devil Gundam next year.

Now I am thinking of doing a " DeepStriker " instead. Nope I won't use a resin kit as I cannot and will never afford one anyways. I think I will be needing two MG EX-s Gundams for this project. So this should easily be more expensive and bigger and harder to do than my MG The O II conversion.

Now this is definitely competition friendly! Coz this is going to be huge! Should be bigger than my The O and will try to keep the modifications and the painting clean this time ( will try ).

Besides my good friend Kenny ( Toymaker ) is pushing me to level up my modding techniques and my painting, add the fact that he totally killed my MG the O in our face off recently. So I think this project would be a good opportunity to practice different modding techniques and give me new challenges. It will also be a fresh build in comparison to my fat weathered Zeon kits that I have been doing for 3 years now.

Much credit to Kenny ( Toymaker ) once again if I could pull this off. Will ask him for advice through out the build in the first place.

Once again, thanks for dropping by Til' next post guys! :)
