XENOMORPH figure by Alice in Clay

Xenomorph by Alice in Clay photo

I just got myself in the pre-order list of this beautiful xenomorph resin statue, sculpted by Alice in Clay ( facebook link ).

This beautiful sculpt will be reproduced in resin for just 20 pieces for their first release. Super limited edition. And I am so stoked to get on the pre-order list.

The final unpainted figure will be around 35cm tall including the base. Roughly this is at 1/6 scale.

I will be painting this awesome figure with Vallejos ( of course ). This project should be fun!

Do check out Alice in Clay at Facebook, for more updates.

Sacral Vault Minions Battle Engine - UNBOXING

I have here my fav resin model from Privateer Press so far! This is the Minions battle engine The Sacral Vault, arguably the best battle engine of the game ( according to local veteran players of Warmachine ) as of the moment. I love the model so much I had to squeeze time to prime and partially paint the model in between my loads of commissioned works.

The resin model comes with 3 large resin pieces that goes on top of each other, 4 resin wheels, 3 Gatormen, 1 sacrificed and beheaded human figure and tons of candles, skulls and metal tidbits. There is very minimal flash and mold lines to clean. It took me around an hour to clean and prepare for painting.

My 7 year old son loves fielding this with his Legion of Everblight against my Cryx army and I hate dedicating a Deathjack or Kraken to remove it on the table. As usual I am not finished painting this model, much like my Mammoth... this model has to wait until I finish all my commissioned works.

As usual, this Sacral vault was primed and painted with all Vallejo Acrylics.

Hope you like my quick review, until next post guys! Just enjoy the hobby! :)

Hordes Skorne Mammoth WIP - Green Stuff Modifications

Hordes Skorne Mammoth Green Stuff Modificationsphoto

I have mediocre sculpting skills ( as of now ) but hope to improve in time. I wanted to take up Sculpture back in college but my Dad did not allow me to, so I ended up taking up Advertising ( I know... kinda corny ) in Fine Arts. Now that I am very old ( lol ) and working as a Lead Flame Visual Effects Artist ( and earning for my family ), I think it is about time I revisit my desire to learn sculpting. I have a ton of Gunpla commissioned works lined up this year, but will definitely learn and practice sculpting and hand painting ( miniatures ) next year ( 2016 ).

Anyways as I've said I am still mediocre in sculpting. But my noos sculpting skills did not stop me to modify this beautiful Hordes Skorne Mammoth Gargantuan resin kit. The photo below shows some minor gaps or unwanted spaces in between parts that I needed ( or wanted ) to fill. I used Green Stuff for this type of work as Green Stuff takes longer to dry and has very good texture for sculpting. It dries to a hard rubbery plastic material when mixed evenly.

See the link below as I also use Green Stuff for Battle Damage effects on toy customs and Plastic robot kits...

Other than the usual Green Stuff gap filling and some additional sculpts to enhance the gaps ( see photos below ). The main modification on this resin kit is the addition of the "cannon balls". I used a Tamiya Epoxy Putty for the cannon balls ( as they dry faster than Green Stuff ). I intentionally did not make perfect balls as I thought the imperfections will match the sculpt of the resin kit. I used brass rods before adding and sculpting the blast and smoke effects. I hope this looks cool and menacing once painted. The cannon ball effect should add more energy to the look of the kit.

Well that's about it. I hope you try using Squadron's Green Stuff on any of your project soon! May it be plastic robots ( Gunpla ) you are trying to enhance OR highly detailed and quality resin or white metal figures like here in this post. Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys! Just enjoy the hobby! :)

Hordes Skorne Mammoth Gargantuan Unboxing

Hordes Skorne Mammoth Gargantuan Unboxingphoto

The BOX

I got this kit last weekend when I went hunting for commissioned work Perfect Grades. I got this from Fortress at Greenhills at 5,800 php. This model is from Privateer Press and is the Gargantuan model of the Hordes Skorne faction. I was planning to get the Gargantuan model of the Trollbloods which is the Mountain King as I have a small army of Trollbloods ( see my Gallery ). But I decided against getting the Mountain King as I really find the Skorne Mammoth so beautiful and challenging to paint! For the record I almost got myself a PG Unicorn on the same day but decided against it as I have 2 Perfect Grade commissioned works on the way, so I practically have no time to build a PG Unicorn anyways.

This should be so tedious and fun to paint. Both the Hordes Skorne faction and the Warmachine Protectorate of Menoth are the most difficult models to paint from Privateer Press. So now I decided to build an army of Skorne models! I wish to get the Skorne Army pack once they release it this February!

I do not see much unboxing of Warmachine and Hordes miniatures around the net. I then decided to put up posts of all my future unboxing as it should be helpful and fun to read. I am also trying to poison both DECAY and Mr.GAV to try to paint any of the Warmachine models as they are really good with hand painting!

This model stands on a 120mm round base and is made of resin and white metal parts. I love the materials used by Privateer Press as they make solid molds with very nice details. I love the weight of these models as they make you feel like your holding a premium work of art! Heavy and detailed and once painted should look super nice on any display cabinet. Miniatures are extreme showmanship of hand painting skills and learning to hand paint well should be a fun experience.

The  CONTENTS

The model came with the usual playing cards that I plan to learn how to use soon. The model came with chunkc of heavy resin pieces, small resin pieces, highly detailed white metal ( pewter I think ) parts, the 120mm round base, and a simple instruction sheet. I used a bottle of Vallejo Model Air as reference for the scale of the model parts.
