Selley's versus Tamiya Epoxy Putty

EpoxyPuttyphoto

I bought epoxy putty a couple of days ago and figured to share it with you guys as always. I have used Selley's and Pioneer epoxy putty a few times in my builds before and I could say that even though Selley's is a bit more expensive than Pioneer, it is basically the better choice. So let me sort of compare Selley's with Tamiya epoxy putty ( quick type ).

  • 25 grams of Selley's sells for 120 Php while 25 grams of Tamiya sells for 185 Php.
  • The working time of Selley's is 15 minutes while Tamiya ( quick type ) is about 45 minutes.
  • Selley's is a lot stickier than Tamiya, although you need wet fingers to work on both.
So if you are planning to use Epoxy Putty for sculpture or small parts fabrication, Tamiya epoxy putty is the better choice. 45 minutes of working time would allow any modeler to shape and work with the material before it hardens. Tamiya being less sticky than Selley's makes for easier handling of the material.

However if you are planning to do a big chunk of part like what I did here, Selley's would be the practical choice. Aside from being cheaper, you really have no need for too much working time if you are just making a basic shape out of it.

I will be using both these putties soon but I rather not open them for demonstration purposes. So I figured I'd just share you a link to a modeler friend on using putty for welding surface effects. Although the modeler used miliput in his tutorial, this is the perfect example on how you would use Tamiya epoxy putty as miliput and Tamiya feels the same anyways.

Now here is the link of a tutorial by Phantompain aka Sihao aka Chinese guy in Belgium...

MAC Forums is shutting down!

Forget MAC Facebook, forget MAC Forums! Its a ton more fun to chat at Skype! We will now be shutting down both the forums and the facebook extension as we spend more time chatting this days. Heck I will also shut down this blog soon...

Nahhhh... not really, just had to think of a nice title for the post coz MatX beat me to it ( hate you man ).
I haven't been blogging lately as there is so much MAN-LOVE at Skype these past few days. First time for me to do video chats and it's really kinda fun to have those faces behind the avatars and the Gunpla names.

Kamm ( UK ), PhantomPain ( Europe? ), Gary ( London ), DCMKii ( Sweden ), Kriz ( US ), rzero1 ( Phil ), MatX ( Mars ) are my regular Skype lovers. I am actually building more coz of the chat. I usually sleep after work and just do modeling on weekeends, but the Skype thing makes me build or paint kits while Skyping.

Nyways, Love you guys! and here is the link to MatX's blog post of our man - loving at Skype...
