That's right! Everyone has their own style and building/modding methods... In modeling, there is no such thing as "wrong" with each modeler's work... there is no over-weathered, over-plated, too modeled... because each modelers have their own PREFERENCE, and that preference is what makes the modeler's work unique to other modelers...
Yeahhhh....kit modelling is also an art, and arts are borderless...
Arts know no constraints.
Different person goes with different style, and differences are the thing that enrich our beloved world.

Agree with you, Don. There's just too many whiners out there. Sometimes, sharing your work will frustrate you rather than inspire. Trust me, I know how it feels too
Its just like taking photos there is no such thing as right or wrong...its the artist way on expressing his/her feelings about that photo :) Maybe if you encounter those kind of people again just tell them..."You do it! then I'll be the critic" :D

i agree with this sir DC. after all, the saying goes each to his own right? good thing at MAC everyone appreciates what everyone does.
Art is correct.
I paint my kits as I feel, sometimes better sometimes worse, sometimes clean, sometimes dirty. And I have not seen the model was poorly painted. Only inexperienced, and we all were once.
Yeap, there are different levels of experience and skill level though, but that does not give experienced modelers the right to bash at people.
Every contribution or finished kit inspires everyone to build more anyways. :)
Yeah glad I have this blog though, people who appreciate your work outnumbers these idiots by the hundreds anyways. ;)
haha, Nah I'm ok with it, I can handle criticism even if it was said in the most disrespectful way. I worry about the new and young modelers though, as they might get discouraged by such comments from the experienced modelers.
There is always a better and nicer way to give critic. Idiots just does not know how to put them into words I guess. :b

We are all inexperienced in this hobby, there is just so much to learn. There are different levels of experience and skill level but everyone has put so much time and effort into building a kit, NO ONE has the right to bash them... publicly at least.

I've seen stuff like
I've seen similar situations happen in the military modelling and wargaming communities, and they've slowly petered out in time. I'm not a fan of certain styles of painting models or figures, but even if I don't like the style I've still found myself learning from the artists. And artists is right, with people like Michael Fichtenmayer in the robot world or Mig Jiminez in the military world showing what really is possible with a box of paints :)
Well said, DC, you've had our fair share of crits yourself, with maybe much of them from the arrogant turds in that other local Gunpla group. Put down to "don't do that, you should do it the way I do it, and you'll be a better modeler." My take on that, "I don't tell you how to do your shit, don't dictate jack on me." I know it might create some hostility, but you catch my drift. I've had my fair share of poorly painted kits and even if I showed them to you, you may be appalled as to how I worked on it (remembers poor paint job on 1/144 Gundam Airmaster and Airmaster Burst), but what do you expect from a 16-year-old who was so nuts about Gundam back then?
Different levels of skills...different levels of improvement technically. But everyone should just enjoy each others contribution to the community. I hate idiots! :)
Agree, each build no matter the level of modeler who built it inspires you to build your next. However, this is the internet so idiots roam around like house flies... Nothing much we could do about it actually. :)
hahahaha, not bothered by those people anymore... enjoying the hobby so much now with real friends and we could crit each other everyday and we try to improve together in every build. That topic will never be forgotten but is ancient now. ;)

I appreciate GunPla as an ART just as the way i appreciate paintings, curvings, sculptures, figurines, and other form of art. I have this passionate appreciation on beauty and art. I do appreciate colors. I recognize undefined shapes and objects as wonderful abstract patterns. I find some boutique's displays more appealing than the merchandises they're actually selling.
I do have the utmost respect on every artist and their work...
Yeap it is... and much like art, all styles should be appreciated and not scrutinez in any manner.

I'm new to this blog but not to mecha/mecha modeling by a long shot.
Though I have built quite a few mecha kits in my time I'm actually an illustrator and designer of this kind of stuff, first and foremost. That said I feel you have every right to be put off by anyone attempting to lord their "way" as THE way to do anything in the realm of self expression. As you've covered rather well, in your post, art is self expression and it's typically very personal expression. The whole point is that channel of thought to action to expression and hampering it with any form of "way" or "technique" dogma is, frankly, rather silly.
As a guy who liberally weathers the crap out of my illustrations of mecha I can also comment on the notion of clean vs dirty. First, just as you said, these are robots and, thus far, purely fictional creations so the sky's the limit. This is about imagination more than reality by the nature of the subject matter, however if a sense of realism is to be approached these machines WOULD see wear in combat. Any allusions that this wouldn't happen is just as much a fantasy as the mecha itself. As to how much wear you'd see, that would depend on a number of factors but any machine seeing enough action would have some scrapes and scars to show.
I've only just begun to explore this blog and, so far, it seems to be a pretty inspiring place for fellow modelers I should think :)

Actually you can crit about it coz anyone has the right to, BUT there is always a respectful way of saying / doing it. This hobby is not about the " output " or the " way " your ass progresses and climb the ladder of " fame "... It's about enjoying your free time and making new friends. :)
Yes, that's what I mean with "can't critique it for technicality." Also, if this hobby is about the output, then I am truly bad with it. I LOVE modifications and custom building above all else, and I don't really care if I finish painting my work so as long as I've done the modifications I want (my k-triya, waist mods, articulation mods). Of course, painting it completes the process.
Agree, I used to think that this hobby is about kicking people's butt in competitions ( my bad ). BUT I have enjoyed it a lot more than my first couple of years as I am acquiring so much friends with this hobby these days. The key here is mutual respect and admiration for each others contribution to the community.
Agree bro... Much like DRAWING, artist have different LEVELs of talent and skills. So basic understanding of other people's capabilities, skills or experience and respect are the most important thing to appreciate the other artists' contribution.
NO ONE IDIOT in this world has the right to dictate on how you should enjoy a FRIGGING Hobby!
NOT everyone is willing to put hours of practice and dedication to a hobby! Just appreciate and be respectful to others. Being better than others does NOT give you the RIGHT to speak to them in a disrespectful manner.
Even if you are doing it wrong, you can always LEARN from it.
