Games Workshop Sam and Frodo in Orc Armor verDC23

I realized last weekend that I never posted this quick project here in my blog. I then re-touched some details and highlights and immediately took some photos.

These are Lord of the Rings pewter figures from Games Workshop. Quick and so much fun to do as you just have to scrape off the mold lines and paint away! As usual these pewter figures are painted with Vallejo Acrylics. Vallejo Surface Primer, Vallejo Model Colors, Game Colors, Texture Paints and sealed with Vallejo Satin Varnish.

Any modeler should try their hands on something like this. Cool little figures that are so nice on your office desk. Thanks as always for dropping by! Until next post guys! Just enjoy the hobby! :)

WIP: Sam and Frodo in Orc Armour

" Where there's a whip there's a way! "

These super small pewter models of Frodo and Sam in Orc Armour are nice little replicas of both characters in the Lord of the Rings, Return of the King movies. Models are from Games Workshop and stands just a bit more than half an inch tall! Cool stuff and I wish to find a Bilbo Baggins model sometime soon, so that I could create a small Bag End diorama.

I did create a huge pile of grass of Bag End diorama around 10 years ago. Using the Bag End door that came with the 4 inch Bilbo Baggins action Figure. It was huge at around 24 inches wide, 12 inches tall and 12 inches thick. It was made up of tons of plastic gardening stuffs, popsicle sticks and all kinds of materials even silicone.

Anyways as it is obvious, I love the Lord of the Rings universe! I do hope to find interesting Games Workshop Lord of Rings models that I could put into small vignettes / dioramas everytime. No plans of playing the game though... but hoping to get prominent characters from time to time.

This post should be the only WIP post for this Sam and Frodo in Orc Armour diorama as I am to spray primer to these models after this post. Painting should be fairly easy as there is not much colors in Mordor anyways. Hope you like this post...

WIP - Space Marines diorama - staging

As usual I can't help but share with you even my smallest progress. I have here the initial staging of my Space Marines diorama using styrene sheets ( pla plates ) and lots of PVA glue ( white glue ).

I wanted to somehow show a bit of story on this little diorama as that is what dioramas are for. I mean you can't put a model in the middle of a desert and call it a diorama. Oh well I think you can call it a diorama as the story is simply the model running out of gas or dying in the desert ( lol ). Anyways I wanted to depict a bit more complex story behind mine.

I wanted to depict a squad of Space Marines scouting a deserted base. The model at the front has a sort of gadget showing that he is " detecting " something " behind the walls ". Pretty straight forward story telling I think. The overall diorama or the story of the whole scene will be complete once I place some Tyranids on top of the base.

The squad of Space Marines will be unaware of the danger on the top of the ruined walls. My composition shows that the Space Marines has no options but to engage the enemies coming from above... needless to say, I will make sure that the fate of all the Space Marines and their chance of survival looks very low.

The high walls ( or at least they look high in person ) gives the whole scene a tense and crowded look to the Space Marines. The walls adds to the difficulty of survival as the Space Marines has NO where to go. I gave the whole composition some angles to add interest as I do not want a flat floor and a super flat wall.

More Tyranid models, detailing and damaging the walls should complete this diorama. Anyways here are a few more photos of my progress so far...

WIP - Space Marines diorama - assembly

I wanted to try my hand on some Warhammer 40k stuff as I have never owned some, much more painted some before.

Just wanted to see all the fuzz with the bitz and modifications and the whole shebang.

I liked working with the plastic models but I have NO intentions of building up an army for table top gaming ( as I cannot afford it ). So while I build up my Warmachine ( Khador ) and Hordes ( Trollbloods ) armies for table top gaming, I could do occassional vignettes and dioramas of some models from Wathammer and Warhammer 40k.

Beside they are really popular and some models are really nice specially the Tyranids. I cannot afford to put my Trollbloods on a vignette though, as I'd rather see them painted and in action on table top games soon. So I am super excited to try my hand on doing a Space Marines diorama as there are not much around in the internet and diorama building has always been so fun for me.

I will have to conceptualize a diorama for my new Space Marines tactical squad and I have a picture frame as base already. I could do a mountain with grass and trees and place those Space Marines and call it a diorama, but I'd rather not. I have raw ideas already but would need a bit more models for it. Do check out this space as I work fast when excited.

WIP: GW LOTR Mordor Orcs - clothes painting

I have painted all the red and green clothes / areas of all the 24 Games Workshop LOTR Mordor Orcs a couple of days ago. I have also painted the dark browns on the the parts. All of the green skin, green clothes and red clothes have highlights, edge lining and washes already.

The figures are being painted with Vallejo Model Color as usual but the washes are Windsor & Newton oil paints. Loving the oil paints very much but I have yet to invest on more tubes / colors.

I like taking photos of my progress as I see my imperfections in the close up pics. Some of the highlight colors are a bit thick and the washes are a little bit too dark. These are my first miniatures and painting all 24 of them should be a great learning experience as I paint more complex and more detailed miniatures very soon.

These are plastic figures and I am looking forward to leveling up to their metal counterparts very soon! Anyways here are a few progress shots of my Mordor Orcs...

WIP: GW LOTR Mordor Orcs - Green Orc Skin

These are my Games Workshop Lord of the Rings Mordor Orcs figures and I continued working on them last night.

I managed to paint 14 Mordor Orcs with green skin for a couple of hours before going to sleep yesterday. I plan to paint the other 4, orange skinned and the other 6, red skinned. As usual I painted these with Vallejo paints using Olive Green, Yellow Green and Yellow Ochre. I thinned the paints to skim milk consistency and applied around 3 coats for the base olive green coat.

I have yet to paint the eyes and have yet to apply some washes. Some washes would hopefully bring out more details on the skin parts soon.

I was pretty surprise that I somehow still have a steady hand and a sharp eye ( not getting any younger after all ). I painted these without any magnifying lenses and somehow it looks kinda okay for my first miniature attempt. 1/35 figures are suddenly so big and easy! lol

This is sooooo fun! Pretty nostalgic too as I used to paint and draw a lot back in college ( I took up Fine Arts ). Also really glad that my hands are still steady enough for this and eyes are working just fine. Hope to show you better updates soon, just too excited I had to post my green orc skin first attempt. :)
