Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque review

Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque review photo

I just got my Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque paints today and as always would like to share how the paints are. This is more like my first impression rather than a quick review as I have yet to really experience using the paints as much as I want to. I am a Vallejo paints loyalist so pardon the bias of this post. :)

I think the Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque paints is like the GW and Vallejo Model Color foundation paints. They are a lot more opaque and are great for base colors of any plastic or metal miniature. I primed my minis though, but I wanted a stronger paint as Vallejo Model Color, as great as it is when it comes to blending and coverage, is not as strong or scratch resistant as I want it to be. Same goes with GW paints that could easily be scratched even if used over a primed mini.

I think I need not talk much about the Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque paints as you just need to look at my photos to see.

These paints are thinner in consistency than Vallejo Model Colors thus you need not thin it 50:50 with distilled water. After some trial and error, I think a 70:30 ratio works best for me. These paints are so opaque, if you paint them over a glass window you won't see daylight!

The blue color on the miniatures in the photos are painted with just ONE COAT of Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque. The Heavy Siena ( brown ) needed 3 coats to fully be opaque though. Most likely that the warm colors ( reds and browns ) will need 2 to 3 coats to fully cover unlike the greys and the blues.

I used Heavy Blue and Heavy Siena and thinned the paint 70:30. Need I say more? hehehe. I will be buying the other 13 extra opaque colors ( I have 3 now ) as I will use them for all the base color of my miniatures.

I will still use the Vallejo Model Colors for all my painting, high lighting and blending as it comes with so many color tones ( 220 ), but will always used these Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque paints as base painting from now on. Check out the photos guys...

Thinking heavily to use Heavy Blue Game Color Extra Opaque as the color of my Trollbloods army? I love black but I think the blue would give my army a personal touch.
