Fulltime Freelance Artist

Today marks my first day as a "Fulltime Freelance Artist". I will be a ton more active with my painting projects and illustrations from now on. This Blog should be lively again. I wish to be active both with my illustrations and my paintings, and will try to be active in various graphic design and creative commission works.

I am waiting for my UpWork profile to get reviewed at this moment. I wish to do a ton of creative freelance work for various clients all over. I already saw some interesting stuff at UpWork since last night. This "freelance artist' stuff should be fun.

Not much to tell as of now. Will work on a handful of commissioned illustrations within the next couple of weeks and will try to build up my portfolio at UpWork at the same time. Focusing on my craft from now on. Pretty sure I will be overly productive this time around.

Battle Damaged Ironman statue coming soon...

I did not paint this Ironman in these photos... but will be picking up the statue from a good old friend later today and sort of repaint it.

I am pretty excited to work on this project as I am very confident I could finish it in one weekend. I will just add paint chipping and battle damage effects to the statue and maybe some burn marks using Vallejo pigments. This project should add flare to my old stagnant commission gallery soon!

As always I will use Citadel and Vallejo paints for the damage effects and Vallejo washes and pigments to add depth to those armor plates. I am not sure if I need to tone down the shine of the surfaces / areas with damage effects, but I am pretty sure it should look great either way.

Anyways, just wanted to share these stunning photos of the statue in clean form before I bastardize the dang sheesh. Stay tuned guys! :)

Stormtrooper conversion coming soon...

A good old friend has a friend that commissioned me to convert and paint a simple 12 inch StarWars Stormtrooper figure to look like the statue above... The toy is the photo below! :)

Initially the dude just wanted me to add battle damage and blue markings to his toy... I think that just painting the toy above won't make the toy look impressive as the simple pose is not very impressive looking. So I then convinced the dude that I'd rather re-pose the toy and create a custom base to look a bit similar to the photos of the statue.

I will be getting this toy on Saturday. I will need to cut of those limbs to be able to manage to re-pose the toy. I bit of re-sculpting should be exciting and painting worn out paint markings and battle damage painting effects should be fun!

Anyways, stay tuned guys as I try to convert this simple toy to look as impressive as the statue below. :)

TF Human Alliance SKIDS with Mikaela review

This is my first Human Alliance TF toy and I bought it at a sale price of 1,000 Php. I always liked the Human Alliance series, although I find them a little bit expensive. I have a handful of Transformers ROTF Movie voyager class toys that I would love to repaint too. And I also have a couple of Leader class in Optimus and Megatron, but would not dare to paint those yet.

After painting the NECA 12" Kratos, I feel confident enough that I could now pull off a decent TF repaint using Citadel and Vallejo paints. I decided to paint this Skids figure other than my voyager class toys as I really like the details and the size of this toy. Not too big and not too small.

The details of the figure is excellent! It's like almost getting the Leader Class figures and the transformation is almost as difficult and complicated. Although I have most of my TF toys in car modes, I plan to never transform this after my repaint and maybe, just maybe create a simple custom base for it and display it like a Gundam model kit.

The Human Alliance Skids came with an ugly Mikaela figure and a nice super easy to transform Arcee. I am not sure if the Arcee details and looks are faithful with the ROTF movie, thus I have no plans of painting it, I will just play with it together with the Mikaela figure.

Anyways, I needed these photos for my usual before and after comparison pics, but I took a lot of photos to serve as a some sort of review of the toy. Now here are some pics...

God of War NECA 12" Kratos figure repaint

I just finished painting and taking photos of this 12" Kratos action figure. I will give this to my client / officemate today and I hope he'd liked it. I actually enjoyed painting this toy specially the blood stuff. Battle damaging this is better than battle damaging Gundams! I will also look for my old LOTR toys and repaint once in the same manner.

I painted this with some Vallejo and Citadel paints and I never used any enamel washes this time. I basically re painted the gold and silver parts as they were too dull. I also added a few wounds to the figure and added blood using a red Gundam marker.

The red looks like real shiny blood as Gundam markers dries to a shiny hard paint. The flat coat of the skin tone together with the shiny blood and metallics completed the look that I was going for. I blended the skin tone of both the Medusa head and the Kratos figure with Vallejo pigments.

Overall I could have done some spot enamel washing to improve the painting and have removed the mold lines. But I love how easy the Vallejo pigments are applied, so I got lazy to mix some enamel paints. Besides enamel paints easily damages my brushes. 

I also did a simple base for this action figure. It is just a simple ground work that was also painted with some Vallejo paints and pigments. Vallejo paints and pigments and citadel paints came from above! These are fabulous paints for toy repaints and I highly recommend them.

A lot of thanks goes to my Skype buddies Hummingbird, Kamm and Decay for their suggestions on how to tackle this repaint without actually repainting everything. The next couple of photos shows the quality of the final photos ( lol ) and the jump before and after my repaint. Now here are a ton of photos of my blog's first TOY repaint...
