custom Janissa Stonetide ROCKWALL by DC23

It took a bit of research and some helpful comments from the friendly Warmachine Hordes playgroup at Facebook to figure out how to make a ROCK WALL template. This custom rock wall template is for my Trollbloods Janissa Stonetide. I have only played a couple of 20 point Khador versus Trollbloods game with my brother but is hoping to get a couple more Khador models, so that I could field both my Trollkin Runebearer and my Janissa.

The rock wall is a linear obstacle... the size is 4 inch wide, .75 inch thick and 1 inch tall. At .75 inch thick I think enemy models with " reach " ( 2 inches ) can obviously attack over the wall and at 1 inch tall, any enemy model with RAT could target Janissa or any model behind the wall. Again I have yet to field Janissa so I may be wrong with the rules stuff. At least I have a custom made rock wall which should add a bit of fun while playing than paper templates. :b

I used plastic cards ( Tamiya plastic plates for the base ), some cork board strips cut to size, wood glue for the sand and Vallejo paints. Took me half day including curing time ( wood glue  and paint ) and now my rock wall is ready to rock with my Janissa! Hope you like my custom rock wall, here are more photos...

Hordes Trollbloods Dire Troll Mauler by DC23

I just finished painting my first ever Hordes Warbeast! This is the Trollbloods classic ( metal ) 30mm Dire Troll Mauler which is about an inch and one half tall. I had fun painting this one even though it took me a while to like the contrast I did on the blue skin.

I could have done a better job on the prep work before painting but I am happy with the outcome. I should have added more detail painting on the red spike hair but was excited to take photos of it already.

I painted this solely with various Vallejo paints. Primed it with Vallejo grey primer, base coated with Vallejo Model Air and painted with Vallejo Game Color and Vallejo Model Color. Even the Inks and Washes are all Vallejos.

Nothing special with this Dire Troll Mauler as I just painted it with the standard PP studio colors and the base is very simple as I find the model very heavy and cumbersome already.

Trollbloods Trollkin Runebearer by DC23

I just finished my Trollbloods Trollkin Runebearer and I am pretty happy with the outcome. I actually thought that this was going to be a boring project as the pewter model lacks the over the top details of my previous Trollblood models. What it lacks in details it overcame with it's impressive and intimidating pose though.

I had a bit of hard time differentiating the different " browns " in the model. I made the main cloththe darkest, painted the leather parts redder, painted the scottish cloth more orange than usual and painted the highlights in different colors... ending, they all look the same! lol

I think I am getting the hang of painting minis now. I am still working on my high contrast painting and trying to get used to the idea that almost all the details needs highlights. Totally different than scale modeling where subtlety and realism ( usually just base color, washes and drybrushing ) is the norm.

Anyways... this is my fav of my painted models so far ( although I will say that again in my next ) and will be painting more in the following days. The photos are big for their own good... hope you enjoy them...

Trollbloods Fennblades Unit by DC23

I just finished my first ever Trollbloods unit! I present to you my Trollbloods Fennblades Unit!

It took me a while to finish painting these 10 models as I experimented all sorts of painting techniques while I was painting them. My first time to attempt wet blending on the orange skirts, may first time attempting NMM on the yellow bronze parts of the swords and my first time to use both Vallejo Game Color and Vallejo Inks.

The experience was well worth it but the outcome was not something to write home about.

Pretty happy with the look of the models in person but the photos exaggerated my errors and painting imperfections. I think I could do better on my Trollkin Runebearer and my Dire Troll Blitzer as I could apply everything I learned with these models. I think I could paint faster too as I just did not know what to do or how to paint my first few Trollbloods models.

Anyways these models were painted with all Vallejo paints... Model Color, Game color and Inks. Now here are the photos guys, hope you like them.

Janissa Stonetide in custom epic base by DC23

I just finished painting my Janissa Stonetide with custom epic base.

This marks the first time that I attempted doing wet blending on the skin tone of my Trollbloods. I enjoyed painting the boob highlights very much and I think the blending on the blue skin went well. I also did a lot of edge highlighting and highlighting in general. My Tamiya 000 sized brush work well for this task. I also managed to paint the eyes successfully this time.

This was a quick one day job... not speed painting but not super slow painting either. I should be finishing my 10 Fennblades soon so that I could start work on my first Warbeast ( Dire Troll Blitzer ). This Janisaa Stonetide was painted with Vallejo acrylics, all custom mix as I have a limited number of paints only. Now here are a ton of photos of my second finished mini...
