custom Janissa Stonetide ROCKWALL by DC23

It took a bit of research and some helpful comments from the friendly Warmachine Hordes playgroup at Facebook to figure out how to make a ROCK WALL template. This custom rock wall template is for my Trollbloods Janissa Stonetide. I have only played a couple of 20 point Khador versus Trollbloods game with my brother but is hoping to get a couple more Khador models, so that I could field both my Trollkin Runebearer and my Janissa.

The rock wall is a linear obstacle... the size is 4 inch wide, .75 inch thick and 1 inch tall. At .75 inch thick I think enemy models with " reach " ( 2 inches ) can obviously attack over the wall and at 1 inch tall, any enemy model with RAT could target Janissa or any model behind the wall. Again I have yet to field Janissa so I may be wrong with the rules stuff. At least I have a custom made rock wall which should add a bit of fun while playing than paper templates. :b

I used plastic cards ( Tamiya plastic plates for the base ), some cork board strips cut to size, wood glue for the sand and Vallejo paints. Took me half day including curing time ( wood glue  and paint ) and now my rock wall is ready to rock with my Janissa! Hope you like my custom rock wall, here are more photos...

Janissa Stonetide in custom epic base by DC23

I just finished painting my Janissa Stonetide with custom epic base.

This marks the first time that I attempted doing wet blending on the skin tone of my Trollbloods. I enjoyed painting the boob highlights very much and I think the blending on the blue skin went well. I also did a lot of edge highlighting and highlighting in general. My Tamiya 000 sized brush work well for this task. I also managed to paint the eyes successfully this time.

This was a quick one day job... not speed painting but not super slow painting either. I should be finishing my 10 Fennblades soon so that I could start work on my first Warbeast ( Dire Troll Blitzer ). This Janisaa Stonetide was painted with Vallejo acrylics, all custom mix as I have a limited number of paints only. Now here are a ton of photos of my second finished mini...

WIP - Janissa Stonetide's custom base painted

I should be finishing my 10 Fennblades soon... but was so itchy to paint my custom basing for my Janissa Stoentide.

I had to paint it as I was so unsure if my green stuff sculpting look like rocks. The unpainted base looks so much like a small pile of Nerds candies as you can see here. However after a few rounds of base coating, dry brushing and oil washes... the base looks convincing enough and looks a bit like rocks. Nothings beats the texture of real rocks but this would do I think.

I need to buy a few green and soil flocks to add variation in my basing soon. I also need to do touch ups on the highlights of those rocks but I am pretty happy with how it looks as of now. Glad it does not look like Nerds candies anymore. I will put this project on hold as I need to finish my Fennblades already.

WIP - Janissa Stonehide custom epic base

I always loved doing custom bases and diorams even back in my old plastic robot ( Gundam ) hobby as you can see in my galleries. thus having to create so many quick bases for my miniatures is soooo much fun! I did this quick base for just a couple of hours today and hopefully it should look good once primed and painted.

This epic custom base for my Janissa Stonehide model marks the first time for me to use GREEN STUFF.

I thought using green stuff over a bended wire to create swirling rocks around the model should be the best practice project. Gluing real rocks to form the same shape should look great but might not be that strong and durable. Thus I think this is the best option to create such an effect.

I instantly fell in love with green stuff as it is so easy to handle! It is NOT as sticky as your usual carpenter's epoxy putties or as sticky as the Tamiya epoxy putty. Much like the Tamiya epoxy putty, the green stuff takes a while to harden thus giving you ample time to sculpt details. I think I will be using more green stuff in my future projects aside from just filling huge gaps. It is great stuff that is so fun to work with.

However it is very important to note that a 50/50 mixture of green stuff produces a rubbery finish. It feels like a rubbery plastic toy once cured ( 8 hours ). Mixing a custom mix with more blue ( hardener ) parts should make for a harder more plasticky ( less rubbery ) finish.

Green stuff is the perfect stuff for sculpting... however I personally think that Tamiya epoxy putty being more sandable and hard remains the perfect epoxy putty for your plastic robot or scale modeling projects.

Trollbloods Janissa Stonetide unboxing

I just got meself some new Trollbloods models today and figured I'd each give them an " unboxing post ".

Obviously I am so into this new hobby of mine and this Janissa Stonetide is my 12th Trollbloods model to date. I have 10 Fennblades and 1 Madrak Ironhide before I got this mini.

As usual this is a metal miniature from Privateer Press and is a valuable addition to my Trollbloods army. Janissa Stonetide is a Trollblood Trollkin Runeshaper character solo. The sculpt is very beautiful as always and I am so excited to give this solo character a custom and elaborate rock base. Janissa Stonetide can control rocks around her... and I will make sure that my custom base will show her true powers!
