Hordes Trollbloods Dire Troll Mauler by DC23

I just finished painting my first ever Hordes Warbeast! This is the Trollbloods classic ( metal ) 30mm Dire Troll Mauler which is about an inch and one half tall. I had fun painting this one even though it took me a while to like the contrast I did on the blue skin.

I could have done a better job on the prep work before painting but I am happy with the outcome. I should have added more detail painting on the red spike hair but was excited to take photos of it already.

I painted this solely with various Vallejo paints. Primed it with Vallejo grey primer, base coated with Vallejo Model Air and painted with Vallejo Game Color and Vallejo Model Color. Even the Inks and Washes are all Vallejos.

Nothing special with this Dire Troll Mauler as I just painted it with the standard PP studio colors and the base is very simple as I find the model very heavy and cumbersome already.

WIP - prettiest miniature face I have painted so far

I needed to check if I am achieving the contrast I want with the miniatures I am working on, so I took photos of my work in progress to check.

I am pretty happy with the painting of the face of my Kommander Strakhov so far and I think it is my best painted human miniature face to date. It still needs a bit of red tones on the lips ( I'll use orange though ) and some darker recess areas maybe under the eyebrows and inside the lips. But I think he looks okay specially in person.

I also finished basing my Warmachine Khador Juggernaut, Destroyer and Shocktroopers and should be painting the metal parts soon. I drybrushed red orange on my Khador units already but my crappy point and shoot camera cannot capture it.

I am also happy with the skin tone of my Dire Troll Mauler in person. but again my camera seems to diffuse the contrast I have achieved. I think I need to add more contrast on the muscle tones after seeing these WIP photos. I am happy with the teeth of my Mauler though and should be adding some white streaks to increase the contrast. I just need to paint the rocks on the body and the nails to finish up my first ever Warbeast.

I am desperately in need for a better camera as these minis are so hard to capture with my old point and shoot.

Progress is a bit slow as I played with my 20 point Trollbloods army with these Khadoran army earlier today. I played a couple of games with my 8 year old daughter and had fun with a simplified rule game. NO focus and fury points and NO special abilities whatsoever...just MAT / RAT versus DEF, ARM, AOE. I lose twice as our simplified game is mostly based on DI luck! :)

Trollbloods Dire Troll Blitzer unboxing

Now this is only my 14th Trollbloods model and my first ever Trollbloods WARBEAST !

I cannot put into words how excited I am to assemble this behemoth of a metal mini. Being my first ever Warbeast, I was totally in awe with the heft and the size of the parts. It is practically twice the height of your average Trollkin figure and it comes with a big 50mm plastic base. The model has 14 separate parts to assemble and is easilly my most complicated metal mini todate.

Unlike my jannisa Stonetide and my Trollkin Runebearer in which I have an idea for their custom bases already, I am still thinking of a cool base for this huge kit, should research a bit after this post. This kit makes me want to get more Warbeasts and should get a Dire Troll Mauler next. I need to get other units to complete an army though as my Warcaster ( Madrak Ironhide ) is Infantry oriented and not beast oriented.

HORDES Trollbloods Warbeasts

I love the Privateer Press website more than anything else these days, but I do get tired of clicking each and every figure and wait for the photo to upload from a thumbnail. So I thought I'd steal all the photos of PP and put them in one post. This time I only stole all the Trollbloods Warbeasts photos and should have separate posts for the other units.

Love it! Just one post and I get to see all the Trollbloods Warbeasts in the original sizes of the photos and not in thumbnails. Nothing beats huge photos in one post! Now I get to ogle at the photos and day dream I could afford all 16 Trollbloods Warbeasts in one shopping. That is more or less around 32,000 Philippine Pesos!
